“The one person that lies to you the most is you.” That’s what mindset champion, Brayand Ponciano, says. It’s true, right? When we make mistakes or are unable to reach our goals in our real estate career, we make tons of excuses.
“It’s a bad market.”
“My mentor doesn’t get me at all.”
“Sellers don’t understand me.”
Sure, they may sound like legitimate reasons to fail, but sometimes, they’re just lies we tell ourselves! So, how do you stay true to yourself? It’s all in getting the right mindset. Let’s learn what Brayand has to say.
The points below are from the 23rd episode of the Real Estate JAM, where Brayand talks about not clinging to our excuses, creating your reality, using your privileges to your advantage, and many more! Tune in on the full episode on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts.
Everything Starts and Ends With YOU
To be able to start working on yourself, you have to switch your mindset. Understand that all the good and bad things that happen in your life are brought about by you alone. Our situation is our fault. It may sound counter-intuitive to the whole “excuses” thing we mentioned earlier, but it’s a different thing.
Everyone knows that COVID-19 has taken tons of jobs and opportunities for people. Is the virus your fault? No, but you are still in control of what you do in life, regardless of you still have your job or not. We’ve heard about people making it big despite the virus clogging up jobs. Why? Because they found a gap in the market and CHOSE to fill it! For us in real estate, yes, the virus did slow us down, but what have you done to adjust?
Not in Business Alone
This concept doesn’t only apply to our jobs or business, but also to our personal lives! Sometimes we trust a person too much regardless of the red flags and end up getting hurt. Sadly, some people choose to stay with the wrong person for decades, and other times, people stick with the wrong kind of people.
And these people, partners, and friends get the blame. But the blame goes both ways. They chose those people in their life. They chose to stay in that job. They chose to tolerate mediocrity.
Brayand says in the episode, “Everybody creates their own reality, but only successful people take credit for it.” We’re pretty sure you’ve heard a couple of TED Talks or probably speeches from big-name people during graduation ceremonies. You’d rarely (if not at all) hear them blame others for the hardships they’ve experienced. Despite their struggles, the reality they created was what they wanted.
You create your own reality too. Make it the way you want it, despite the struggles.
