Content marketing. Isn’t that just posting what you do on social media? Well, yes. But as with all things, it goes much, much deeper than that. When you’re in the real estate industry, you have to get people looking at you. Otherwise, the attention will go to your competition! Josh Culler, president of Culler Media and marketing extraordinaire, shows us how it’s all done! Having a great understanding and application of content marketing can help you have the edge over those who don’t know what they’re doing.
The points below are from the nineteenth episode of the Real Estate JAM, where Josh talks about how he got into marketing, what content marketing is all about, how to get started, and building a brand. If you want the full experience, tune in to the full episode on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts!
Content Marketing Simplified
Content marketing, as Josh says, is simply answering the questions that your target demographic has about your industry, services, or product. Easy! From here, you’d have to know how you’d be answering those questions for your audience. It could be through videos, articles (like this), images, podcasts, infographics, email blasts, and many more.
Starting Content Marketing
With so many forms of content marketing available, how do you choose which one, to begin with? If you’re already good with graphic design, you can start there. If you have experience with writing, articles might be your go-to. You get the point. If you’re still clueless, it might be good for us to assume that you don’t have any expertise on the media present earlier. Don’t worry. Josh has something for you.
Whenever you get on the phone with a seller, write down every single question that you have. It doesn’t matter if it’s a trivial or stupid question – because there’s no such thing as that! There’s a reason why they’re asking those questions. From those questions, whether simple or complex, pick one. Shoot a video of you answering it and post it on your Facebook page, LinkedIn, or other social media platform you use.
A 24/7 Salesman
Whatever you put out there, whether it’s that video of you answering a question or a simple infographic, it acts as a 24-hour salesman. They don’t take breaks or vacations. No lunchtime. No sleep!
What does this mean? If a seller wakes up at 2 A.M. in the morning because they REALLY want to sell their home, they’re going to look around on the internet for stuff to help them out. “Do I need to do a foreclosure,” or “How to sell my house” are probably some of the things they’re going to look up. And what would they see? Your video. Your article. Your infographic. Those things you put up online will help you build rapport with them while you’re sleeping! The next day your office opens up, you can expect a call from them.
That’s how content marketing works. Just make sure you’re putting out stuff that your target is looking for! More about that in next week’s article. But if you can’t wait, you can listen to the full episode on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts!
