Ever wonder if you’re the only one dealing with the problem you have? If you don’t talk to many people, then the answer to that is likely “yes”. But if it’s a problem in your real estate career, it’s a different story, especially if you don’t have anyone who can relate to you!
Well, that’s why soaking into communities of real estate agents, realtors, or investors is great! You get to meet a lot of people, which allows you to talk about your problems to people who can actually understand where you’re coming from.
But if you’re already doing that, let’s take it to the next level. We’ve got Todd Fleming, the co-founder of the Kingdom Real Estate and best-selling author of If You Can’t Wholesale After This: I’ve Got Nothing For You, to share some nuggets of wisdom he picked up in his journey from baseball player to a real estate pro! Did we mention he’s OUR mentor? We guarantee you that he understands the problems of real estate investors like you and me.
From the thousands of students that Todd has encountered, the problem he’s noticed is that everyone has always related to this two – mindset and approach. Sure, you have the technical side of things to worry about, but that’s something you can address with a little education. But at any level of the game, people tend to have these identity or mindset issues.
The points below are from the fourteenth episode of the Real Estate JAM, where Todd Fleming talks about the common problems his students face, breaking out negative thought patterns, team dynamics, and equipping yourself with the right mindset. Mindset and Approach for Beginners
Beginners are always crippled by fear. We know this feeling all too well. Even if you’re already a Master (we’ll talk about you in a second), you know what it was like when you were just starting. Questions like, “What if I can’t do it?” or “What if something goes wrong” are played on repeat in your head. So much so that it prevents you from taking any sort of action! It’s funny that Todd says in the interview that newbies are so terrified that they can’t even ask him a question! OR, they’re too theoretical by asking way too many questions but not doing anything at all.
And hey, if you already think you’re at the Intermediate or Master levels, your monsters are still the same. They’ve just changed their skins!
The Same Monsters in Different Skins
Intermediate-level folks go through a state of confusion. Todd says that there’s this likelihood for you to forget everything good that you’ve done to get to that point, then get confused why you’re not on someone else’s level yet. Not necessarily in a “jealous” way, but just confused why someone else is getting the numbers when you’re doing the same amount of work. Relatable, right?
Masters, on the other hand, deal with their egos. If you’re denying that, then you’re DEFINITELY dealing with ego problems. This issue never comes up at the start and almost only comes around when you’ve amassed a lot of experience and success in your career. This is where the “jealous” or extremely competitive aspect comes in. It’s a unit race. “A thousand units? That’s not enough. I need another thousand before the next guy catches up to me!” A competitive spirit is not bad, but sometimes the mental contests we make creates more problems that we can’t see. And most of the time, it’s only you that cares about those numbers!
Want to see how you can deal with these issues? You can hear it from Todd himself! Listen to the full episode on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts.
